In a submission to the Joint Working Group forum for industry, federal and provincial governments, industry identified liquefied natural gas exports (LNG) from Canada’s West Coast to Asian markets as a key opportunity: both to provide economic benefits to Canada, while lowering global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by displacing coal.
The lack of new pipelines to access overseas markets is costing Canada jobs, prosperity and tax revenues.
Canadian LNG would produce fewer emissions than other sources, helping to lower global GHGs while potentially enabling Canada to surpass its Paris commitment.
Building these pipelines would help Canada receive full value for its oil and natural gas resources.
