Canada’s oil and natural gas industry generates employment for Canadians. According to the Petroleum Labour Market Information Outlook 2017 to 2021, the industry will support an estimated annual average of 510,000 to 550,000 direct and indirect jobs between 2017 and 2021. A wide range of jobs and professions are supported, including engineers and scientists, tradespeople, accountants, financial analysts, human resource professionals, community liaisons and so on.
Indirect jobs are jobs created when the oil and natural gas industry sources goods and services from other companies. These goods and services include things like transportation vehicles, steel, plant equipment, electronics, environmental consulting and so on.
