Phoenix Heli-Flight emergency medical helicopter service, known locally as “medevac,” is a very important component of regional safety. Phoenix is the main medevac service here operating 24/7. The service previously operated on a fee-for-service basis that was not sustainable, so industry stepped in to assist. The current funding model is a three-way partnership between RMWB, Alberta Health Services and four oil sands companies, which is expected to continue through 2018.
