Hebron oil platform starts its journey

It will take about two weeks for the massive structure to reach its destination in the Grand Banks

The Hebron Gravity Base Structure (GBS), an offshore oil production facility, has begun its estimated two-week journey from its construction site in Bull Arm, Newfoundland and Labrador to its eventual home over the Hebron Oil Field in the Grand Banks. The platform, which is approximately 220 metres high and has a 130-metre diameter contains more concrete than the Empire State Building. It is being towed by eight tugboats.

Update (June 19, 2017): The platform has been successfully towed into place. It took 12 days (June 3 to 14).
