Survey: Canada valued for its responsibly produced oil and natural gas

International energy attitudes survey highlights how Canada’s environmental commitment is a competitive advantage

In the Global Energy Pulse survey, more than 22,000 people in 32 countries around the world were surveyed regarding their attitudes to energy and the oil and natural gas industry. Some key findings include:

  • Canada was ranked number one among 11 oil and natural gas producing countries as to where people would prefer importing their energy from.
  • 49 per cent of respondents from India agreed Canada’s oil sands is inventing and using leading-edge technologies to minimize environmental impacts. (According to the International Energy Agency, India is forecast to become the largest importer of oil in the world by 2030).
  • By a more than 2 to 1 margin, survey respondents said they would prefer to get their oil and natural gas from countries with climate changes plans versus those without.

These findings highlight the fact that the commitments made by Canada’s governments and oil and gas industry toward reducing GHG emissions and mitigating environmental impacts is a competitive advantage, placing Canada in a position of strength as the world moves to a cleaner energy future.
