VIDEO: What global energy demand means for oil and gas

Canadian Geographic shows us how a growing world means we'll need more energy of all types for the future.

By 2040, our world is going to require 47 million more gigawatts of energy than we use today. It's needed to meet the energy needs of a growing world population and to help people around the world improve their standard of living. To put that in perspective, just 1000 gigawatts could power 10 billion 100 watt light bulbs, all at the same time. It's also just enough energy to send Marty McFly back to the future 826 times.

This smart and informative video by Canadian Geographic explores why global energy demand is increasing, what this means for all the sources of energy we'll need to use. It also explores how innovation and efficiency can play a key role in helping us make the energy we need with fewer impacts on the environment.

The video is part of the EnergyIQ series, an energy education resource created by Canadian Geographic to teach Canadians about growing demand, the energy mix, emerging technologies, regulatory requirements and much more.
