Trans Mountain protesters don’t reflect mainstream Canada: Poll

Six-in-ten Canadians say the protests against the Trans Mountain expansion pipeline don’t reflect the mainstream view of Canadians.

A strong majority of Canadians say that the protests against Trans Mountain don’t reflect the mainstream views of Canadians. This finding is according to the second report in a two-part Angus Reid Institute study of the Trans Mountain debate.

Sixty per cent of Canadians agreed with the statement: “The people out there protesting don’t represent the mainstream at all.” Only 23 per cent disagreed with this statement while 17 per cent were not sure or couldn’t say. As well, 25 per cent of Canadians said that the protests make them more likely to support the pipeline expansion, versus 18 per cent who said they made them more likely to oppose it.

In addition, 77 per cent of Canadians said that an important consideration in this issue is maintaining Canada’s and BC’s reputation as a place to invest.
