Encana's Water Resources Hub in the Montney natural gas region in northeastern B.C. will significantly reduce fresh water use in Encana's hydraulic fracturing operations in the region. The hub accesses saline water that's unfit for human or agricultural use from an underground aquifer. By tapping this otherwise unusable source, the hub is expected to conserve an estimated 2.6 million cubic metres of fresh water over five years. This also means 160,000 fewer water hauling truck trips, reducing GHG emissions, noise and road wear.
