A greener future starts with natural gas, world energy chiefs say

World energy ministers representing two thirds of the global population say that natural gas vital to achieving cleaner energy future.

A consensus statement from G20 energy ministers meeting in Argentina this week says natural gas is key to achieving a cleaner energy future. The statements cites the potential of natural gas to “to expand significantly over the coming decades.” The ministers also recommended that nations looking to enhance renewable energy strategies increase investment and financing in that area.

According to June 15 Bloomberg report, Thorsten Herdan, Germany’s Director General of Energy Policy, told a panel at the meeting that “gas will play a vital role in every transition” as the world strives to meet targets for emissions cuts laid out in the 2016 Paris Agreement.
