Canada’s transmission pipelines by the numbers

CEPA members invest in safety and the economy.

From CEPA’s 2018 Transmission Pipeline Industry Performance Report: 

Safety and environment:

  • $1.6 billion – dollars invested by CEPA members in pipeline maintenance and monitoring
  • 2,557 – integrity digs completed to examine pipelines
  • 3 – number of significant incidents in 2017 (two liquids pipelines, one natural gas pipeline)
  • 36,882 – kilometres of in-line inspection runs on pipelines
  • $22.2 million – money invested by CEPA members on pipeline integrity technology

Economic benefits:

  • $4.1 billion – money spent by CEPA members to obtain personnel, services, supplies and equipment from local sources
  • $1.3 billion – tax revenues CEPA members contributed
  • $10 billion – capital expenditures by CEPA members
  • 13,000 – CEPA member employees in Canada
  • $30.2 million – money invested in community programs, including $4 million to Indigenous communities
