CAPP president and CEO Tim McMillan discusses the impact of the Pacific NorthWest LNG decision not to proceed, what it means for Canada, and what industry, government and Canadians need to do to improve competitiveness and still take advantage of Canada's LNG opportunity.
On July 25, 2017, Pacific NorthWest LNG announced their proposed LNG project will not proceed as previously planned. The project could have been one of Canada’s largest resource development projects with a total investment of $36 billion. During construction the project was expected to create 4,500 jobs and an additional 630 direct and indirect jobs during the operation of the facility. Indigenous communities were also expected to significantly benefit through agreements made with the project proponent.
