Although the majority of Canada’s energy exploration and production is in Western Canada, the Atlantic region plays an important role in our country’s energy industry with offshore exploration and production occurring in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Exploration drilling is a key component of the offshore oil and natural gas industry. Offshore exploration drilling can take several years of planning, and safety and environmental protection are paramount in the process. More then 300 offshore exploration wells have been drilled in Atlantic Canada to date.
